About Us

Traditional Boat Works specializes in traditional wooden boat construction and repair methods and has built or rebuilt/repaired boats ranging in size from an 8 foot row boat to a 125 foot Pilot Schooner. We have worked on boats designed or built by Sparkman & Stephens, John Alden, Johan Anker, Starling Burgess, Renato Levi, Francis Sweisguth, Philip Rhodes, Nat Benjamin, George Kettenburg, Paul Kettenburg, Bill Clark, Luders, HB Nevins, Lester Stone, Abeking Rasmussen, Reimers, and many others.

Doug Jones

Over thirty years of experience working with traditional wooden boats and classic yachts.

•Employed at Mystic Seaport in 1983 working as a rigger, then apprenticed at Gannon and Benjamin Marine Railway on Martha’s Vineyard (1986) before moving to California in 1988 to sail as Bosun on the CALIFORNIAN.

•Hired by Bill Clark of Clark Custom Boats to repair the schooner KELPIE in 1989 and became head carpenter in 1995.

•Logged over 20,000 nautical miles of offshore and coastal sailing in boats ranging in size from 30 to 65 feet.

•Family BoatBuilding Event head instructor since 2000 as a volunteer. Families build a 12 ' Bevins Skiff in a 2 1/2 day intensive program.
